01 Jan 2015 Snapper and Reds

Matlacha

January 1st 2015 I picked up my clients Vince and Chris in Matlacha Park on one of the warmest mornings before this cold front came through. This day started off on a Negative tide so I decided to fish around the mouth of the Caloosahatchee and Pine Island sound around St James where the tide would start coming in the earliest. As we made our way down from Matlacha I stopped and scanned several areas through the pass there weren't any signs that would have made me stop to fish so we ended up starting around Sanibel Bridge. I knew we were out there a little early for the tides so I decided to use cut bait to start out on the flats to get a scent out there. After a short while and the tide still hadn't started we headed out looking for signs of bait fish after a short search we found an area worth checking out where a pair of dolphins out about 200yards were tearing the shallows up and was quite a treat for my clients to watch. After trying this spot out for a little bit we decided to move again as the dolphins made their way towards our area. We made a move about 2 miles and set up there we ended up catching some snapper, Trout sheeps head all in the same depression. Soon it was time to leave as the current was moving well now I wanted to get them on some Reds. We move about another mile and set up on perfectly calm waters and it wasn't long that the Reds were feeding. There weren't large schools of them but 2-4 in a group and that was all we needed to get them on our lines. Chris had a nice bull Red on that broke off just before he reached the boat and Vince landed a nice slot Red to end their trip half day trip. Tight Lines If you're ready to go fishing give me a call to plan your trip so we can try and catch the tides right. As I do cater to the Veteran community, if you're a Veteran with proof I have the best prices around and I guarantee it. Captain Jim 239-671-4692 {%image_id=41646%}
