Logan Martin Lake Report By Reed Montgomery/Reeds Guide Service Alabaster, Alabama Website www.fishingalabama.com Impounded 1964 Lake Level Down 5 Feet Water Temperature 60 Degrees Water Clarity Light Stain Mid-to-late March shows prespawn bass on Logan Martin lake. By April the lake will be on the rise returning to full pool after being down 4-5 feet all winter. This weeks warming trend in the 70's has shown some prespawn spotted bass and largemouth bass moving shallow and feeding in the mouths of creeks, small cuts and pockets, along flats on the main lake. Up in major feeder creeks try secondary points and along any rocky points. Low water cover exposed for now, will be five feet under water this time next month. A good time to make note of spawning bass future hang outs, soon to be flooded habitat like rocks, stumps and brush piles. Choice lures cover water fast right now while fishing for both big spotted bass and largemouth bass both found mingling in these types of places. With certain lures you can have a good day fishing for big, prespawn bass and plenty of reaction bites. Try lipless lures in half ounce sizes and crayfish or shad colors. Shallow to mid running crankbaits, both floating and suspending model hard-bodied jerk baits, swim baits and spinnerbaits in white, or chartreuce and white colors. * Spawning bass next month!
