Mild water temperatures pushed a lot of fish on to grass areas around the areas bars. Snook and reds were hitting on shiners on the higher tides. Nice trout in the 18-22 inch range were on the deeper grass and feeding on shiners and soft plastics. This activity should continue until the next cool fronts slows them down. Winter shrimp fishing is at its peak. {%image_id=31691%} Lots of sheepshead are around all structure throughout the bay and shallow gulf. Best baits are small oyster crabs which will also cut down on the small bait stealers. Small shrimp and sand fleas are also excellent. Pompano and small permit were roaming near the edges of the passes. Doc's jigs and other types of pompano jigs tipped with shrimp are always a good method. Good numbers of spanish mackerel and bluefish were also around the reefs. Tom Chaya
