We had good catches of gag grouper in the shallow gulf and bay. There were also a few keeper red grouper in the hard bottom areas. In the chum line we also got some school sized kingfish and big spanish mackerel. Some large flounder over 20 inches were also on the edges of the structure and hitting small pinfish. Most of the activity was on the start of the incoming tides. The low tides produced the best catches in the bay. Redfish schools were roaming the edges of the bars. They were super spooky and it took a lot of chumming to hold them. Trout fishing was better with a lot more fish over 15 inches. Snook were in slightly better numbers than the last year. Lots of small snook were caught around the mangrove isalnds in Sarasota bay. It is a great time of year to fish with all the different species on the bite. This will continue if the water stays warm.
