Anna Maria

{%image_id=32545%}{%image_id=32544%}April is finally here and with it some of the best fishing. This week fishing really heated up on the flats around lower Tampa Bay. On Saturday we tried some nearshore reefs for spanish mackerel. The bite was not the best and we only landed a few small mackerel when the wind picked up. I decided to head for the flats around sarasota for some redfish and snook action. The first spot we pulled into was a winner. We caught mostly reds all morning and afternoon never leaving the same spot. At on point we counted twelve triple hook-ups on reds up to thirty-three inches.{%image_id=32541%} Tuesday I had two half day trips set up with kids on both charters. I headed for some deeper flats at the mouth of Tampa Bay for some fast mackerel action. The spanish did not disappoint every shiner that hit the water got hit with a vicious strike. The wind picked up for the rest of the week so I fished the protected flats around Anna Maria. Snook and redfish again provided most of the action with a few nice gator trout thrown in for good measure.{%image_id=32540%}{%image_id=32537%} We even caught a few good flounder in some of the sandy pot holes. Good Fishing! Capt. Rick Gross
