Baja Sur

A Nasty North Wind EAST CAPE, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO Wed., April 11, 2001 TEMPERATURES: High of 84 with a low of 68. We’re seeing strong winds out of the north. STRIPED MARLIN - More reported being seen each day. YELLOWFIN TUNA - Still hit or miss. DORADO - Quite a few sighted with few bites. ROOSTERFISH - Unsettled conditions keep the fish down. JACK CREVALLE - A few fair sized fish are hanging out in front of the hotels when the wind isn't blowing. BARRILLETE OR MEXICAN SKIPJACK - A few of the boats found some in front of Cabo Pulmo and Las Frailes. PARGO AND CABRILLA - Fair near-shore action at Punta Colorada or Cerro Verde. .. OFFSHORE: Rough conditions and little action. .. INSHORE: Windy conditions have made the near-shore tough. .. BEACH: A few small roosters, ladyfish, sierra and some fair-sized jacks early morning before the wind picks up in front of the hotels. .. QUICK COMMENT - We are all hoping this will be the last strong north wind of the prolonged winter season. MAGDALENA BAY, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO Wed., April 11, 2001 Temperatures: 76-degree high; low 61. TUNA - Lots of bait but, so far the tuna haven't shown up. YELLOWTAIL - Some deep water action at the entrada. CORVINA - Find a deep hole in one of the channels and fish it on an outgoing tide using one of Popovic's Jiggies in gray and white. SNOOK - A few fish being seen moving up on to the shallows to feed. HALIBUT - For a no-brainer, find a sandy bottom and let your olive Clouser sink. Retrieve it very s-l-o-w-l-y and don't forget to strip strike on the take. .. QUICK COMMENT - With the water temperatures warming, the activity throughout the bay seems to be on the upswing.
