Offshore Starting to Heat Up EAST CAPE, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO Sat., April 28, 2001 TEMPERATURES: High of 84 with a low of 64. Flat calm with early morning fog for the last few days. STRIPED MARLIN - More beginning to show up in the catches. YELLOWFIN TUNA – Good catches are being found underneath the porpoise. DORADO - A few scattered fish, but few groups. ROOSTERFISH - Still great in front of La Capillia and La Ribera. JACK CREVALLE - A few good-sized fish are hanging out in front of our beach house at La Capilla. (Must be Yvonne’s cooking.) BARRILLETE OR MEXICAN SKIPJACK - A few here and there. PARGO AND CABRILLA - Punta Colorada producing best action. .. OFFSHORE: Calm sea conditions allowed the boats to travel further to get to the warmer water where the marlin and tuna seem to be. .. INSHORE: Good roosters, pargo and a few good sized toro (we call jack crevalle “toros” or “bulls” for obvious reasons.) .. BEACH: early morning at gray light you will find a few jacks and small roosters on the beach between Rancho Buena Vista and Buena Vista Beach Resort, also, along the beach near Rancho Deluxe. .. QUICK COMMENT - Danny and Luanna Foster, along with Connie Devlieger all the way south from Anchorage, had an excellent first day of a five day trip. Each of them landed a number of small roosters on the fly. While Buzz and Mary Fedorka, Telluride, Colo., also fishing from the pontoon, had busy day with pargo, jacks and roosterfish on the fly. MAGDALENA BAY, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO Sat., April 28, 2001 Temperatures: 76-degree high; low in the mid 60's. Fair skies with lots of wind. TUNA – In a word, slow. YELLOWTAIL - A few but not a bonanza at Thetis Bank. CORVINA - A few seen near the power plant. SNOOK - Pretty slow this week. HALIBUT - Still pretty good near the entrance .. QUICK COMMENT - All I can say is that fishing was pretty slow with the best catches being cabrilla and a few pargo in the esteros.
