EAST CAPE AND MAGDALENA BAY FISHING CONDITIONS Wed., Feb. 06, 2002 EAST CAPE, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO IN GENERAL: The weather continues to be poor. The wind has blown very hard each day with overcast skies and very cool to cold temperatures. It rained very hard most of last night. Tues. (2/5) was the first day without wind. It is still overcast and cool with still some sprinkles. The temps have been in the low 40's at night with the highs in the day between 55 and 60. Sea conditions have been rough with wind waves making it difficult even to fish along the shore .. OFFSHORE: Only a few brave souls made it out this week with only a few dorado and sierra to show for it.. .. INSHORE: If you can get out, your chances are good for sierra, dorado and small tuna. .. BEACH: Large wind waves shut off whatever action might have been going on. AIR & SEA: Unusually low temps with rain makes for one of the coldest Feb. on record. BILLFISH - None reported because of the lack of boats going out. YELLOWFIN TUNA - Punta Pescadero still the best bet and it is close. DORADO - Sounds like mostly open water. ROOSTERFISH - Rough conditions slowed the action down. JACK CREVALLE - Wait till the wind quits. BARRILETE OR MEXICAN SKIPJACK - Not targeted this week. PARGO AND CABRILLA - Good time to find some shelter from the wind and fish the structure. SIERRA - Best bite in several years when the wind quits. IN GENERAL: With more and more whales arriving every day, the focus this week has been on the whale watching more than the fishing. AIR & SEA: 69 - 58 with some wind in the afternoon. YELLOWTAIL - Deep in the water column. CORVINA - Mostly smaller fish with an occasional five pounder. SNOOK - Still on the slow side. HALIBUT - A few in the flats at the entrance of some of the channels. SIERRA - Watch for the birds diving in the open waters of the bay.
