Baja Sur

EAST CAPE, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO REPORT FROM GARY GRAHAM'S BAJA ON THE FLY: PROVIDING QUALITY SALTWATER FLY-FISHING 365 DAYS A YEAR IN BAJA Wed., Feb. 20, 2002 IN GENERAL: Today is windy. Tomorrow, who knows? Boats working down to the south reported dorado and a few billfish on the temperature break. The inshore in front of La Ribera has produced sierra, yellowtail and even a few amberjack. .. OFFSHORE: Best bet is down toward Las Frailes a little to the outside on the temperature break. .. INSHORE: Between La Ribera and Punta Colorada has produced sierra and a few small dorado. .. BEACH: Still best early morning before the wind picks up. You can expect to catch some ladyfish and small jacks. Try a chartreuse Clouser and let the fly sink before you retrieve it. AIR & SEA: 78 - 60 Sea Temps 67 - 69 degrees. BILLFISH - Best action down to the south along the temperature break 7-10 miles out in front of Las Frailes. It is still a crap shoot and probably not something you want to waste your time trying to catch on the fly. YELLOWFIN TUNA - Check out under the shark buoys out in front of Punta Pescadero. DORADO -A fair number of smaller fish. ROOSTERFISH - Wouldn't be surprised to see a few larger fish looking for the ladyfish. JACK CREVALLE - Early mornings and late afternoon if the wind quits for smaller fish. BARRILETE OR MEXICAN SKIPJACK - A few starting to show close to shore from Rancho Leonero to the lighthouse. PARGO AND CABRILLA - Rock structure with small Clousers. SIERRA - Still a strong showing along the sandy beaches between la Ribera and Punta Colorada. .. Catch of the Week Photo: http://www.bajafly.com/weeklycatch.html MAGDALENA BAY, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO Wed., Feb. 20, 2002 IN GENERAL: A few small dorado and skipjack outside the entrada. Just a so-so bite up in the esteros. AIR & SEA: Clear skies and 73-62 degrees with some wind in the afternoon. YELLOWTAIL - A few down deep near the entrada . CORVINA - Only a few smaller fish most of the larger ones are gone. SNOOK - Still slow. HALIBUT - Old standby, but still a sucker for a Clouser retrieved slowly on a sandy bottom. SIERRA - Belcher Point produced a few tight to the beach. Catch of the Week Photo: http://www.bajafly.com/weeklycatchmagbay.htm
