EAST CAPE AND MAGDALENA BAY FISHING CONDITIONS Wed., March 20, 2002 EAST CAPE, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO IN GENERAL: I arrived back in the East Cape on Sat. to be greeted by a north wind which has blown continuously except for a brief respite on Mon. However, we’re still fishing and catching. Dr. Richard Cambria, visiting from Boston with his two sons, scored on sierra, a handful of football sized yellowfin tuna and a couple of dorado. Bob Pizalli, Redwood City, Calif., caught jacks and pargo from the beach on a small Sea Habit Sardinia. Bill Hegberg, from Basalt Colo., using a similar Sea Habit, hung several jacks from the beach in front of Punta Colorada. Today the wind continues to blow, though with a little less intensity, and we are hoping to back out fishing tomorrow. Spring officially arrives around noon today. We can hardly wait. AIR & SEA: Sunny Hi 81° Lo 65 Wind: N /15 mph Humidity: 55% Visibility: 15 Sea Temps: 68 - 72 degrees. . OFFSHORE: Several large groups of fish found under floating debris. . INSHORE: Sierra, jacks and roosters at Punta Colorada were the best bet. . BEACH: Lots of jacks from La Ribera to Punta Colorada. BILLFISH - Few boats targeted them this week YELLOWFIN TUNA - A few footballs showed up with the dorado. DORADO - Plenty of action when you find some floating debris. ROOSTERFISH - With all the wind, the water rolled over and is dirty and cold! JACK CREVALLE - Both beach an inshore action very good right now. BARRILETE OR MEXICAN SKIPJACK - Fair catches from Punta Pescadero to Punta Arena . PARGO AND CABRILLA - Rock structure between La Ribera and Punta Colorada produced fair catches for the persistent angler. SIERRA - Best action is in front of Scott Glenn’s house. Today, we have clear skies and no wind. Because of the rough conditions, very little fishing took place this week. No one was on the outside and inside only a few halibut and small corvina were taken. AIR & SEA: Windy and cold until today. YELLOWTAIL - Slow this week. CORVINA – Devil’s Curve and the Bridge are holding some smaller fish. SNOOK - Plenty of fish around in some of the deeper holes up toward Devil’s Curve. HALIBUT - Punta Belcher and the sand beaches across from San Carlos yielded catches of halibut to seven pounds. SIERRA - Still slow.
