Baja Sur

EAST CAPE AND MAGDALENA BAY FISHING CONDITIONS Wed., March 27, 2002 EAST CAPE, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO IN GENERAL: So much for the flat, calm water we thought would continue. Unfortunately, both on Mon. and yesterday the wicked north wind resurfaced and slowed everything way down. Before that, the inshore was great and even the beach was producing consistent action from La Ribera to Punta Colorada. AIR & SEA: Sunny Hi 90° Lo 52° (still b-r-r-rrrr) Wind: SE/11 mph Humidity: 48% Dewpoint: 60° Visibility: 15 Sea Temps: 68 - 72 degrees. . OFFSHORE: A few dorado and there were even a few billfish reported. . INSHORE: Sierra, jacks, pargo and roosters from Las Frailes to Punta Colorada were the best bet. . BEACH: Wind messed that up big time. The best we could come up with yesterday was a “chicken” halibut. BILLFISH – We heard rumors of a bonanza found by the yachts some 63 miles straight out. Sure want to run for that! YELLOWFIN TUNA - Pretty sketchy. DORADO - Mostly 20-pounds and under. ROOSTERFISH - Good show of the smaller guys up at El Cardonal. JACK CREVALLE - Inshore OK, but the beach sucks. BARRILETE OR MEXICAN SKIPJACK - A few from Punta Pescadero to Punta Arena. PARGO AND CABRILLA - Rock structure is the best bet. SIERRA - Great action. Wire leaders are recommended. AIR & SEA: Fair weather with 71 -64 temps and some wind in the afternoon. YELLOWTAIL - Still deep dwellers. CORVINA – Devil’s Curve and the Bridge are holding some smaller fish. SNOOK – Mario’s spot finally starting to heat up. HALIBUT - Find a sand beach and pound it. SIERRA - Still among the missing. They all must be vacationing at East Cape.
