EAST CAPE AND MAGDALENA BAY FISHING CONDITIONS REPORT FROM GARY GRAHAM'S BAJA ON THE FLY: PROVIDING QUALITY SALTWATER FLY-FISHING 365 DAYS A YEAR IN BAJA - THE ONLY ORVIS EXPEDITION COMPANY IN BAJA - Wed., April 03, 2002 EAST CAPE, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO IN GENERAL: As we “promised” in last Saturday’s report, Easter brought spectacular inshore fishing which has continued through today. We’re seeing jacks in the 20-pound class feeding in such skinny water that they are getting sunburned. Some boats are coming back boasting 10 different species for the day. There are dorado in double digits and a few marlin as well. Cecilia "Pudge" Kleinkauf’s Women’s Flyfishing® group has had a great time catching jacks, dorado, sierra, and pargo from both the cruisers and the beach. Many of the attendees are already planning next year’s trip. AIR & SEA: Mostly Cloudy Hi 92° Lo 68° Wind: VA/0 mph Humidity: 69% Dewpoint: 61° Visibility: 10 Sea Temps: 71 - 76 degrees . PARGO AND CABRILLA - I saw one yesterday in front of Rancho Leonero that was caught from a kayak on the drop-off, over 20 pounds. SIERRA - Plenty around. Use clear or opaque wire bite tippet, not the black variety. Catch of the Week Photo: http://www.bajafly.com/weeklycatch.htm MAGDALENA BAY, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO Wed., April 03, 2002 IN GENERAL: Not much offshore and little activity up in the esteros. A few reports would indicate decent fishing both near the power plant and up toward Devil’s Curve. AIR & SEA: Fair weather with 75-66 temps and lots of wind. YELLOWTAIL - Not much on the surface, everything in 100 feet of water or more at the entrada. CORVINA - Mostly smaller fish in the usual spots. SNOOK - A few spotted near Devil’s Curve in the deeper holes. HALIBUT - Sandy beaches with a chartreuse Clouser a good bet.
