Trout catches have been terrific in the last few weeks in the entire area of the low country. I had a day off yesterday and did a scouting trip by myself. I fished a Norton Sand Eel Jr on a quarter ounce Jenny Jig, and absolutely tore them up. I caught 52, with around 35 of them being over the legal minimum of 14 inches. All on a 5 hour trip. Limits are being caught regularly. South Carolina regulations allow a generous limit of 10 trout per angler, over the 14 inch minimum. And they are great eating. I normally advocate catch and release, especially with Redfish, but our trout are very susceptible to winter kill, and mother nature may harvest the majority of them if the water temps get too cold. Nothing wrong in my opinion of keeping a few for a fresh fish supper. I don't think we affect the population for the long haul by keeping a few to eat. Enjoy them while they are here.
