Every year in the middle of September, the big bull Redfish move up into the sound and river from the ocean. We find them at a couple of bridges, and also on the old ballast rock piles in the mouth of the sound. These fish are the big breeders that come in to spawn. We typically use a little heavier tackle, like we use to Cobia fish. Cut or live bait, either menhaden or mullet, work the best. And half a crab is also a great bait for these fish, and entices any big black drum in the area also. Had a trip last week and we put a 3o, 35, and a 60 pound Black Drum in the boat while fishing for the bulls. The bite should continue to get better during October, as the water temps continue to drop a little. The flats fishing for Redfish and Seatrout is also picking up with the cooler water temperatures.Lots of Rat Reds are starting to show now. These are the smaller Redfish that are coming out of the estuary and taking up residence on flats that will be there home for the next 3 or 4 years. Always glad to see them show up in numbers, as these will be our bread and butter fish starting next year.
