Boca flat fishing madness

Boca Grande

7-16-16 Kirk, Joe, Cody and I started the day by catching bait at 0615. The greenbacks were very thick in about 18" of water. I made about seven cast with the ¼" mesh cast net and had plenty for the day.{%image_id=49274%} We started fishing and came up with a few fish on an incoming tide. I moved to the other side of the sand bar where there was more current moving. We would cast down wind but up current. We would use corks or just free line the green backs hooked in the back. We anchored in one spot and put 42 sea trout in the boat using this technique. We kept three for dinner. We also caught several Spanish mackerel and black tip sharks. When they exploded on the bait, it was a site to see. What line screamers they are on light tackle. The seven year old caught his first mackerel and shark with out any line tangles. {%image_id=49273%}I also used a small split shot to keep the bait down a little. We fished Boca Grande pass for mangrove snapper but it was inconstantly slow. We caught several red grouper and two keeper snapper.
