Silver kings bow out to king mackerel. 10-27-03 Fall weather brings us some king mackerel to scream line off our reels. We still have a few silver kings but the eating kings have taken over. We have been limiting out every trip for almost a week; with some time to chase a few reds and snook. These are not huge smokers, ranging from 10 – 20+ pounds, but hot action on 15 – 20 pound gear. Fine eating and enough to share a meal of fresh fish with friends and family. It’s exciting to see many of these fish sky rocket 20 feet into the air and crash our slow trolled live minnows. The reels scream as these hot fish race off against the resistance of our drags. Many run well over a hundred yards before they slow into the tug of war battle back to the boat. We are also catching some snook and big reds. Some schools of reds are still holding in the Harbor. The fish are beginning to shift into the Fall patterns. Baitfish are still abundant. Things will change as the weather cools off. We had a mild front today and that means the door is open. Cooler nights are sure to follow. The fishing will peak soon don’t wait to long. Let’s Go Fishin’ soon. Captain Van Hubbard.
