Boca Grande and Charlotte Harbor

Boca Grande

We are enjoying great weather and even better fishin’. Our December weather has been unbelievable; warm and calm winds. We are catching king and Spanish Mackerel outside consistently with some cobia thrown in. The kings have been up to 28 pounds and Spanish up to 5. baitfish are abundant and large. We are trolling live minnows and then drifting after we get on the fish. The Gulf is crystal clear and we can see bottom in thirty plus feet. It’s hard to find time to Christmas shop. The pompano are moving into this area also. We had ten this morning and they are big, up to three pounds. They are biting on shrimp and jigs. We are casting on the edges near passes. The ladyfish and jacks keep rods bent. We had a few snook yesterday. They are challenging but bite some on warmer days. I had a wonderful couple from Texas yesterday; Polly and Sam. They came to Boca Grande to catch a snook and we landed one nice one and had some smaller ones play with us. They had several kings and two cobia first thing in the morning. They also got several pompano and jacks to round out the trip. Tons of fishing action and fun observing the manatees and wildlife. We even saw tarpon several days this past week. Life is great, Happy Holidays, Let’s Go Fishin’ soon. Captain Van Hubbard.
