Boca Grande and Charlotte Harbor

Boca Grande

Some big snook and redfish are starting to bite. A few big snook and reds to get things started. Happy Leap Year. Our fishing is improving every week. We got some big reds, all over sized, and two whopper snook a 16 and 25 pounder last weekend. The baitfish schools were starting to show up off shore. They were too deep to cast net and we gold hooked them. We had two small permit and some whiting Monday checking for pompano. We tackled a few sheepshead and small trout on the Tuesday trip. Winds were from the South and warm but breezy. We made the best of the warmth and also got in some bird watching. We saw eagles, osprey, wading birds, white pelicans, and one bright pink spoonbill. The fish were hard to get to bite. We saw several nice snook and they just teased us. We were glad the birds were more cooperative. The winds got us over the last few days but Monday looks like a winner. They are predicting 80s for most of the next week. Thursday evening we had a get together at the beautiful new Bay Harbor Ford dealership. Doug Smith offered the facility to help us explore starting a fishing club for the Englewood area. We had a great turnout and things are promising to make this dream a reality. Like we don’t all have enough to keep us busy. Everyone seems to appreciate the chance to talk fishing and many of us want to do some projects for our neighborhood kids. It will be challenging and fun. Let’s Go Fishin’ SOON, Captain Van Hubbard
