Snook season is almost here and we still have tarpon. Captain Van Hubbard’s, Let’s Go Fishin’ report for 8-12-03. In case you’ve been out of state we have had a lot of rain recently. We took advantage of the time off to catch up and visit family. Fishing was fine before the monsoon and I just talked with another captain that said the tarpon were still around just not chewing yet today. Snook season opens soon and we have had lots of snook and many in the slot. Everyone’s excited about a fresh snook dinner. Reds are improving and will get even better. These rains should help push them out to us and it’s time for them to bunch up. We had plenty of small but tasty mangrove snapper for treats any time we get fish hungry. Anything they lack in size they more than make up for in taste. It’s been to wet to look for the mackerel outside. No reports of red tide problems locally for now. As the weather straightens out fishing will improve. If you are after the big tarpon don’t wait to long. It’s time to get reservations for snook season because it’ll be here fast. Like the old timers, Ernie Lee and Captain Wilson Hubbard, use to say; “go fishing cuz it’s good fer ya, and if your to busy to go fishing your just to busy”. Let’s Go Fishin’ soon. Captain Van Hubbard
