Boca Grande and Charlotte Harbor

Boca Grande

What a blessing life is. Web7-27-07 Life is great and fishing could not be better. What a wonderful week of fishing and fun. We found some C&R snook, plus a few mackerel, some snapper and redfish for dinner. Then we played with tarpon in the afternoons until our arms hurt and we had to quit. Larry Murison Jr and son Larry spent two mornings this week fishing with me. They are frequent visitors to our area and found me thru their rental agency at Tarpon Reality. We are blessed with a great family vacation area; lots of fun fishing and playing on beautiful beaches. We found only small minnows but made them work as we had plenty of fish to work with. They caught a mess of fine snapper for dinner and enough snook to make our trip fun. We even ended up with a fine ten pounder for the highlight. Will add photo to site ASAP. Day two was challenging because the fish had moved, as usual this year. We poked around and located some hungry snook for C&R but were interrupted buy some reds and mackerel, thank you Big Guy. We had fun and dinner life is great. Merry bath has her nephews visiting from Cumming, Ga. So we went to Boca Grande Pass to dip crabs for their entertainment. Of course I brought some rods just in case. We arrived in time for some crabs but too late for fish on Monday. AM showers kept us off the water till late. We were on the tide for Tuesday and enjoyed a brief but hot bite before a storm ran us off the water. We had two fish on two drifts. We fought it up to the beach and Merry Beth took some awesome photos for the kids. The boys got to see a silver king up close and personal. They touched it and waved good by as it swam off into the crystal clear waters of the Gulf. It was so much fun fishing quality fish in the Big Pas with out the crazy traffic of season. Wednesday was best tarpon action I have seen since the early eighties when I started guiding at Boca Grande. We had nonstop silver king action until I had to quit because I could not reel up any more fish. It was so hot we lost exact count but it was over ten and most were well over one-hundred pounds. The top fish was about one-seventy and very long and large. It was such a special time to share with family and experience tarpon action in Boca Grande Pass like it is supposed to be with out crazy hot rod boaters scaring the fish off their feed. We observed tarpon slurping crabs for as far as we could see, and that is a long way from my tower in the Dorado. Hundreds of hungry tarpon enjoying the feast of the season and we were prepared to help em. No storms to bother us and just a wonderful experience to treasure for the rest of our lives. Merry Beth made sure we have some incredible photos to share the memories with family and friends. She choose to be the photographer while the boys helped me where they could. They are intense crabbers and helped release the big fish. Like I said, its great be able to enjoy and share such special memories. I thank my God for times like this. Let’s go Fishin’ soon. Captain Van Hubbard.
