Boca Grande and Charlotte Harbor

Boca Grande

Fishing is ok and improving every week. 8-21-07 web Fishing is fine but everyone is busy with school and all. We got out for two short trips last week and found some quality fish. We saw some small tarpon and heard about some bigger ones but they did not want to pursue them. Snook season opens the First of the month and things should pick up them. I’m making the best of the down time to catch up on paper work and do some visiting. I’ll be in and out for the next month so I’ll do the next report when I have more info to share. I was blessed with a two mothers and daughters for last weeks first trip. The girls love fishing and we had to wait patiently for our bites but they were awesome fish. They caught a few small fish and then a huge 44 inch trophy snook. We got tired of waiting in the heat and rode to another spot and landed several over slot reds, 30 inches plus. We also got some jacks, mackerel, and tiny grouper. Everyone had a wonderful trip and we had a great lunch at the Stump Pass Grille to cap off our day. The Fathers had to try their luck after the girls did so well. We got blown out Wednesday so went on Thursday. We started off spotting a school of small tarpon inside so we anchored up. Jim had a snook on his first cast and I thought we were going to tear em up. We played with these fish for almost two hours. They would roll and tease us but no bites except for some catfish. So we moved. Let’s just say we moved a lot and would see a fish pop at out baits but not eat em. We had fun and stayed late but could not duplicate the lucky ladies luck. I did get reports of some good tarpon action but not consistent or predictable. The high pressure systems are saving us from storms like “Dean” but not helping or fish catching. I’ll be in and out for the next month or so, visiting family and friends. We have a Florida Outdoor Writers Conference in September so I’ll be gone a few days there also. With snook season opening back up business will improve. As our weather begins to cool even slightly our catching will improve dramatically. I’m looking forward to an awesome Fall fishing season because we have not had any red tides and baitfish are very abundant. Let’s Go Fishin’ soon. Captain Van Hubbard
