Southwest Florida Fishing Report Mother nature gave us another taste of winter this week with a cold front moving through on Thursday and Friday. The temps dropped 10 degrees and the wind blew form the north at 20-25 mph with higher gust through the weekend. This affected the bait situation as prior to Thursday nice green backs as shown up on the flats and were easily chummed up and netted just at day break. Fishing has stayed steady all through the week with good numbers of snook redfish and trout, the front will only affect the tarpon movement as i expected to see good numbers any day but it could be another week after this blow. I had a great trip with Bill M. and Mark From Alabama this week. Bill booked two days with me and i set them up with a place to stay at the Marina Inn at Burnt Store Marina. The first day out we caught at least a hundred fish but the quality was not there, we managed one nice keeper redfish and several trout for the day but kept the rods bent on smaller fish all day long. The next day out i told Bill we would look for keeper snook and by the end of the trip we had two nice keeper snook and several more trout in the well. Both trips we fished live bait and chummed deep potholes with crippled green backs. If you are considering a stay in our area i recommend checking out the Marina Inn www.marinainn.net it is located on the eastern shore of Charlotte Harbor and has condominium accommodations at hotel prices. Also don't forget about the up coming RedSnook tournament April 26-28 www.redsnook.com it will be a well attended tournament drawing people from across the entire state.
