The weather as finally settled down here in Florida and the winds just quit blowing from the East in one single day. Now we should be in a normal weather pattern for the next few months, if there is such a thing. We have light afternoon sea breezes and warm sunny skies. This is the weather that brings people here by the thousands and makes Florida a vacation mecca. The fishing is getting red hot and the beach goers are out in full force. Tarpon, tarpon, tarpon and more tarpon. The tarpon run is well underway and the fishing is getting better every day. Boca Grande Pass is loaded with big fish and if you can handle the crowd you can expect to take a good number of fish on a tide. Jig fish or live bait you are sure to take a big tarpon. There as been a good school of tarpon on the beach from Sanibel to Captiva pass and the fleet of boats have been staying on top of them daily so if you have trouble locating the fish you cant miss the boats working them. If you give it a try just be considerate of the fisherman that have already stationed up and approach quietly most of these guys are like myself, working. You can make some enemies fast messing up a Capt. with a paying customer on board. So use common sense and be courteous. The redfish should start schooling in good numbers and with the summer tides on their way they should be easy to find. I found a school in Charlotte harbor on the east side that had close to hundred fish. If you come across fish like this its wise to catch a few and move on. To many times I see people locate these fish and beat them up all day and then come back the next day and there gone. You just can’t put that much pressure on any species and expect them to stay. As I wrote in my last report tarpon will be my main focus.
