Boca Grande, Florida Fishing Report

Boca Grande

Spring Snook Redfish And Tarpon The spring fling is on! Snook redfish trout and nighttime tarpon are cooperating well. Redfish action has been good throughout the Charlotte Harbor area with big oversize fish being caught in good numbers. There are several schools of redfish on incoming tides that will keep your rods bent. Look on the bars on a rising tide and bring plenty of fresh caught greenies to chum the fish to you. Big snook are on the move coming out of winter haunts and heading on to the flats and already moving to the passes. These snook are hungry and readily taking live bait as they fatten up from the winter and prepare to spawn. Look for good out going tides and work structure and mangrove points where good flow will allow snook to ambush live baits A few tarpon have been caught already this year and it looks as if the season may kick off early. On my pre-dawn bait catching excursions I have seen numerous tarpon rolling at the bridges and other tarpon spots. Nighttime trips are getting underway with some nights being better than others. This is really just post-season tarpon fishing, the big pods should start to show over the next few weeks. Kingfish and cobia have shown up recently just offshore and are already being caught as far north as Venice. Be careful venturing off shore as the winds have been blowing most days and a few thundershowers have already run through the area. Good Things Come To Those With Bait Capt Andy Boyette
