Boca Grande, Florida Fishing Report

Boca Grande

Not So Good Report Weather patterns have really affected the fishing this past week. High winds have chased the bait to different locations making it difficult to acquire bait for a trip, depending on location. With an approaching cold front today most fish seemed to have lock jaw. The trout fishing is not as good as it has been and snook fishing is hit and miss. The redfish will eat but I have done better with artificial lures than live bait. The Charlotte Harbor area is seeing more and more pressure, with the gin clear water it makes the fish extremely weary. It is difficult to get on a school of fish with out having another boat approach, causing the bite to shut down. Most of the northern visitors will be leaving soon and they are all out trying for that last good trip before heading home. Our area really could use some push pole or trolling motor only areas, to ease some of the boat traffic that is occurring in traditional fishing holes. It would vastly improve our fishing and there would be less damage to the grass flats that are so vital to the fish’s habitat. I personally had three episodes this week where I was set up and fishing when other boats just idled with the big motor within talking distance from me. All three times the mud and grass was churning behind them. Least I mention that it quickly ruined the bite and I had to move on.
