PISCES FISH REPORT NOV. 14-20 2001 PISCES WEEKLY FISH REPORT November 14TH TO 20TH, 2001 BILLFISH: The fishing this week started out a bit on the slow side, but then grew to a crescendo as we passed through the week, however, most of the action was on smaller game, with dorado dominating, which is precisely what we expect at this time of year, of course with marlin mixed in too. The odd boat here and there did catch fish at Punta Gorda, but otherwise the Pacific side from the Old Lighthouse to Golden Gate was the place of choice. Just a little over forty-one percent of charters this week caught billfish. Our boat of the week was “Tracy Ann” with captain Julio, who had billfish 5 out of 7 days. Allen Sansano from Sunnyvale Ca. was the lucky guy who released three on this boat on Nov. 18th, the next day John Weaver out with his children, also released three as well as boating eleven dorado! Our only blue marlin this week was caught by Rick Walsh, from Cleveland - who is always the luckiest guy, (he got a Super Offshore Grand Slam with us in August). Rick was fishing on Rebecca and also boated a dorado. The striped marlin seem to be arriving from further up north and though some are being caught up on the surface (about 30%) the majority (70%) were taken deep, with weighted live bait. Our overall catch success rate this week, for all species combined was a little over 90%, unfortunately early in the week (Nov. 14th) we had very rough and windy weather at sea, which resulted in a lot of “skunks”. Pisces anglers caught a total of 33 striped marlin this week, of which 31 were released, those boated were an average of 120 lbs, one blue marlin was also released. OTHER SPECIES: Dorado, dorado and more dorado, towards the end of this report, some boats had as many as 30 in one day, such as “La Brisa” with Gerry Richmond aboard, who also released one striped marlin this day as well as boating a wahoo. Other boats averaged from one to twenty, though it should be noted, that a lot of the smaller dorado are being released. This has been great as a lot of families are here for the holidays and everybody is getting a chance to catch a fish. Pisces anglers caught almost 400 dorado in this week alone! There have been quite a few wahoo also; with at least four a day making it back to port, for the Cabo fleet overall, weights are average at 30 to 50 lbs. Yellowfin tuna catches were on the slow side but there are still some around. On the 19th Ruthless came back stocked up with eating fish for their client Tom Mueller, with four tuna, ranging in size from 40 to 80 lbs, one 50 lb wahoo and two 20 lb dorado. This same day Karina also had four tuna from 30 to 40 lbs, two dorado and two striped marlin released. Not a lot happening inshore on the pangas, some rooster, some sierra and on some days quite a few “skunks”. LOCATION: Old Lighthouse, Pozo de Cota, Golden Gate WEATHER CONDITIONS: Clear, sunny skies, a couple of overcast days, weather excellent with smooth seas except Nov. 14th when it was nasty. AVERAGE WATER TEMP. 74-77 F BEST LURES: Live bait for marlin and dorado, lures for tuna and wahoo. BASED ON THE CATCHES OF PISCES FLEET BY TRACY EHRENBERG
