Pisces Sportfishing Fish Report July 6th – July 13th Billfish: This week we have an overall success rate of 77%. Billfish catches dropped down to 46%. A total of 50 Billfish were caught and 44 were released. July 8th, Rebecca released 3 Striped Marlin and 1 Blue Marlin for Steve Drapeau & Penny Horowitz from Berkeley, CA. On July 10th Ruthless released 2 Striped Marlin and boated 1 for Robert Widing & Noelle Panczel from Grover Beach, CA. On July 11th Valerie released 3 Striped Marlin for Ann Snyder, Mike Zuest, Melissa Lango and Gybelle Guerrero, Rebecca released 2 Stripeys, a grouper and 4 Rooster fish for Kyle & Danny Ziemmer from Lakewood, CA. Ni Modo caught 4 Striped Marlin for Richard Wilson, unfortunately 2 of them died, the 31ft Halcon released a Blue Marlin, a Striped Marlin and a yellowfin tuna for Edward Johnston & Steven Podsednill from Sacramento CA. On July 12th, both Adriana and Rebecca released 2 Striped Marlin, and Ni Modo released 1 Stripey and landed a 180lbs Pacific Sailfish for Roger Thom from Burnet, TX. Adriana released 3 Striped Marlin and kept 2 30lbs yellowfin tuna for Reinhold & Trevor Gartner from San Carlos, CA. and Valerie released 2 Striped Marlin and 2 Dorado for Spencer With & John Infante from Coppell, TX. Other Species: Dorado is still very slow with a success rate of 16%, average size 40lbs. Tuna is getting even better, with a success rate of 42% and some boats did excellent on the catches like Andrea on July 9th, caught 18 yellowifin tuna between 15 to 30 lbs and 3 Dorados for James & Kathy Horn and Keith & Candi McConnell, that same day, Rebecca caught 10 tunas for Robert Widing and Charles Hotchkiss. C-ROD released 15 tunas on July 12th, and Cabolero gets the first place with 20 tunas between 20-30lbs for Marc Lee. We had a small improvement on the small game like Roosterfish and Grouper. Location: Pacific side on Jaime Banks and Old lighthouse. Sea of Cortez on Land’s End, Chileno Bay, all the way up to San Jose and Destiladeras. Weather Conditions: Lots of white caps this week with some strong winds from the southeast, waves were 3 to 7ft on both the Pacific and Sea of Cortez, mostly sunny but it turned a bit cloudy at the end of the week. Water Temperature: Pacific Side from 75F to 81F. Sea of Cortez from 81F to 83F. Best Lures: Lures worked better starting the week but live bait was better at the end.
