PISCES WEEKLY FISH REPORT JANUARY 19TH TO 25TH, 2007 OVERALL CATCH SUCCESS RATE 100% BILLFISH: We are very thankful that fishing continues to be so outstanding. We had an overall catch success rate for all species combined of 100%, that’s a number that is rarely repeated in other sportfishing destinations around the world. Not far behind was our marlin catch rate, which was 99% in other words just one boat this week did not catch marlin. The majority of fish are still being caught at Golden Gate, though some boats did fish off of the Old Lighthouse, much closer to Cabo, but with less spectacular results. “Yahoo” was our top boat this week with nine striped marlin released on January 20th for Liz and Dennis Sisk from Fort Worth, Texas fishing with Joni Cannon from Alvarado, also Texas. Past records show that Texans tend to be very lucky fishermen. This same day a group from Florida Paul Koch, Jody Akens and Chet Laupert did very well to release six stripers at the Golden Gate. Other boats that caught a half dozen fish in a day were “Sr Moment” for Salvatorre Curiel and “Ruthless” for Terri and Greg Mitchoff, John, Mary and Jenna Brorby, all from Travers City Michigan. Nearly all fish took live bait, on calm seas with overcast skies. Pisces anglers caught a total of 175 striped marlin and 1 sailfish, all but four marlin were released. OTHER SPECIES: After marlin, dorado were the most abundant and this week forty one percent of charters caught between one and four fish. It was nice to see some size on a few of these, up to 42 lbs, whilst others were average at 20 lbs. Several small mako sharks were caught and released and red snapper were caught at the Golden while bottom fishing. Inshore pangas had a few roosters and the odd dorado here and there. LOCATION: Golden Gate, El Faro Viejo, Los Arcos. WEATHER CONDITIONS: Mostly calm seas, skies overcast all week. AVERAGE WATER TEMP: 70 F BEST LURES: Live bait.
