Cobia Bite near Beaufort, SC

Beaufort

Fished with Brian Dreyer and Barry from Brays Island this morning. Had a rain shower before we launched, but the weather was a little better today. Still not great to sight cast, so we set up on the hook at the bridge. Tried for several hours with no luck. Ran downriver to a rip and caught several greenies for bait. Not long afterwards we missed our first bite. I put a bait back immediately and the fish took it better this time. Brian had a great fight in the current, and handled the fish well around the boat. And yours truly stuck the gaff in him first try, and the fish was ours. Weighed him on the boga grip and it pulled down to 29 pounds. I've rounded it up (of course) to call it a 30 pound fish! {%image_id=33053%} I know they are going to enjoy it on the grill. Fresh Cobia is really a treat. Brian and I are fishing together in the Brays Island annual Cobia tournament this Friday, so hope this was just an appetizer. Fun day. Capt. Rick Percy www.reelchancecharters.com Cell: 803-535-6166
