Cobia run is on in Port Royal Sound

Beaufort

With our water temps hitting the magic 68 degrees during the last week, and a full moon tide, the Cobia have moved into the Port Royal Sound and the Broad River. I had a trip cancel Easter Sunday morning, and as I had the boat in the water, decided to give sight fishing a try. The winds were a little higher than what you would like for sight fishing, but the water was clear. I saw two fish and was able to hook up on both, but the first fish came unbuttoned shortly after the bite. The second fish wasn't so lucky, after she ate the Gulp squid on the back of a Spro bucktail I threw to her. Fortunately a boat was going by and stopped to watch me fight the fish, and I invited one of them on board to help me gaff her. The gaff job was perfect, and she weighed 46 pounds on my hand scale. This is a nice fish for our area, as our fish don't run near as big as the Gulf fish. Look at her on my website.
