Cold Water, Slow Fishing

Lake Hartwell

Lake Hartwell Striper Report 1-25-11 Water temperature 46 Degrees Water Level-Down 6 feet Fishing has been tough lately. A few fish have come on trolling umbrella rigs and vertical jigging in deep water. I have heard of some big fish caught back in creeks on gizzard shad. But mostly it has been slow and will be slow until the water starts to warm a few degrees. As this happens, the fish will move further back in the creeks and relate more to the banks. They will then eat small artificial that look like thread fin shad. Don't be in a hurry in the morning. The fish become more active as the water warms thru the day. Late afternoon to evening is the best fishing time, until we get into April. Preston Harden Bucktail Guide Service www.Bucktailguideservice.com
