James Richards and two friends visiting from Vermont fished the Long Island side off the Nissaquogue, and caught a nice supply of blues 2-5 pounds. William Bell and his party from Stamford, returning from last season, enjoyed catching blues and striped bass off the Northport power plant. The blues ranged 2-4 pounds, and the stripers were schoolies, 18-22". Tom Caldwell of Las Vegas and three friends from Nevada and Arizona fished the northeast waters for the first time ever. They had a ball with 5-7 pound bluefish on top midSound, catching them with Rebel swimmers and Creek Chub poppers. They also brought in an occasional schoolie bass plus a 7-pound weakfish on a Rebel. Larger stripers are moving through the reefs at 11B and the drop-off at the O.B., but you have to chunk bait or jig for them. They're not settling on those reefs, but if you're at the right spot under the right circumstances you'll find some nice-sized keepers.

Tight Lines,

Capt. Sal Tardella
