Report for Long Island Sound

We managed to get two trips in last week, despite the rough waters and heavy rains. On Friday Wayne Hurland of New Canaan and his friend, Bud, had a super day--first across the Sound at the Obstruction Buoy, where they had non-stop action for two hours, jigging up bass and blues. The bluefish weighed in at 4 to 10 pounds, and the stripers ran between 3 and 7. We then moved to 11B and, on the incoming tide, we got some more blues in 80-90 feet of water--catching them on jigs and leaving them still biting as we headed home. Bryan Kerschner, our sometimes-mate, brought along two pals--Matt and Emily, a brother and sister--to show them what it's like to fish on the Sound. Bryan, currently studying Marine Biology in Florida, had been evacuated from the Sunshine State because of Hurricane Wilma, so he returned to Norwalk for a few days. Despite the cold rains and strong wave action, the young threesome bundled up and sailed early Saturday morning, but the trip had to be aborted after just two hours of sheer misery for all concerned. They did manage to bring in eight small striped bass, all of which were released.
