Report for Long Island Sound

On Thursday we had an evening charter for Jefferies & Company of Stamford, picking up our four passengers at the Indian Harbor Yacht Club in Greenwich. The trip was only two hours in length because of corporate meetings at the club before and after our excursion--but within that short time we managed to bring in bluefish 8-12 pounds off of Captain's Island. Everyone caught fish, and everyone brought home filets. Saturday morning's trip was with fly rodder, Peter Ackerman of New Rochelle and his daughter and two of her friends. All aboard reeled in bluefish up to eight pounds as well as lots of striped bass up to 27.5 inches. Sunday's passengers--New Canaanites, Paul Thompson and Neil Boyd--sailed with us earlier this season and were hoping for a repeat performance of a great spring trip. We left the dock at 7:30am and headed straight to the Norwalk Islands, where the boys caught bluefish up to six pounds, and striped bass including a 30" keeper--all on light tackle. On Monday morning we sailed with regulars, Murray Verlin and Colleen McCourtney of Stamford and NYC. This time Colleen's sister, Mary McCourtney, visiting from Wisconsin, landed a 21-pound striped bass, measuring 38.5", while we were fishing around the Norwalk Islands--using sandworms. The fish was returned to the water after having its picture taken. Murray also got a keeper that morning, and everyone got into porgies up to 16". To keep things interesting we also caught some bluefish, with the largest weighing 8 pounds.
