The Fish Are Mostly West Right Now....

On Wednesday two friends and I scouted the western waters, including Rye and Mamaroneck in Westchester, Greenwich CT, and across the Sound in Hempstead L.I. Lots of boats were in the Hempstead area, but we saw little action. We brought in one 18-pound striper in the middle of the morning, but the bite for large stripers appears to begin late in the evening and slows down for the most part around dawn. We found bluefish 12-13 pounds under bunker schools, with 2-6 pounders finning on top. Fluking is beginning to heat up on the Long Island Side and around the Nissaquogue.
