Cooler water temperatures will keep kingfish, spanish mackerel, and grouper closer to shore. The kingfish bite was off last week due to rough north winds but are expected to get better as the water conditions improve. Target large bait schools or work the reefs for good action. Bottom fishing for grouper has been good on just about any hard bottom 40 feet and beyond. Gags are closed by the feds but red grouper are still open. Some nice flounder and mangrove snapper are being caught near these structures. Keep a large bait ready available for a quick cast on cobia also. On the inshore scene, there have been more larger trout showing up around the shallow bars. They have been super shallow water so a slow quiet approach is necessary. Reds and snook are also moving into the cuts and channels in the back water. Tom Chaya
