Crazy Weather But Good Catching.

Boca Grande

8-3-08 report It was a different week with morning rains ever day. I did get out a couple of times last week with a Land-o-Lakes rancher friend Patrick B. We shared a half day trip with his daughter Jesse and it worked out great. It was challenging to dodge the thunderstorms and we had to start out later than we wanted but it worked out. The small snook got us started and the reds moved in and made our day. The reds started off smaller 17 – 19 inches, and just kept getting bigger; nice way for it to go. We got our limit of perfect 25-27 inch fish with an over slot thrown in and decided to work on to other spots. We found a few reds most of the places we looked until the tide made high and then it shut down. Patrick appreciates our cracker fish, the mullet, and we talked a cast netter friend we passed into sharing a few to finish off their dinner plans. Thursday our friend, Lowe Morrison drove down from Sarasota to join Patrick and me for a day on the water. Baitfish came ok and we just got set up when a thunderstorm made up on top of us and ran us off. It was short lived and since the back up stop was not producing we returned to our original destination. Action started out slow but picked up; we even had some doubles. We caught several snook, and these were larger, before the reds decided to cooperate. Again the reds were smaller at first but this time many were oversized. We bagged a limit of slot fish and went on to try some other spots. It was strange that some spots were productive and others not but that's fishing. Trout were still missing but we did catch a few smaller ones. Friday the weather was perfect but no clients so I took a few days off to visit family up north in St. Pete..
