Different Night Different Bite

Smith Lake

July 1st, 2011 After one of my toughest nights on the lake in a while. I got a call from a client interested in fishing friday night at the last minute. So I loaded up and headed to the lake. On my way I keep thinking how tough thursday was and with even more pressure who knows how the bites going to be. With it being a last minute trip we meet at 7:30pm and got going by 7:50pm. With all the boats on the water the lake was rocking with almost every bank having a 20 yard section of dirty water. With about 30 minutes before the sun went down we started long lining 1oz. and 1/2oz. roadrunner bucktail jigs. On our first pass as we were about to turn around his rod bent over and line started running. As I reeled in the other line his fish keep making strong runs. It was a 13 pound stripe. it hit the 1oz. bucktail in white/chart. with a chart. 4" curly tail jig trailer. we picked up two more in the next 5 passes one weighing 5 lb and the other 7 lb. By that time dark was on top of us. We pick up two more stripe under the light the biggest weighing 5 lbs. We caught a couple crappie but they seem to be real picky still. The bite was ok being July 4 weekend. Much better then the night before.{%image_id=21581%}
