Wednesday afternoon May 8th found Striped Bass stacked up thick on Valiant Rock. We picked up 24” – 34” bass on every drift. 8 oz. diamond jigs and bucktails did the trick. Fri. night took out Jay Javier and a buddy but things were slow, they still managed to hook up with a few nice Bass. Wednesday was a day before the cold front and Friday was the day after the front passed. Not surprised wed. was the better day. The Tuller group got out early Sat. for a Montauk fluke trip and caught a mixed bag of blues, stripers, and over a half dozen nice keeper fluke and the same number of throw backs. The wind against the tide forced us to throw out the drift sock to get any kind of drift out at Montauk. The biggest striper, 36” was caught trolling a chartreuse parachute jig. Strong cold winds and rough water, forced my friend Bill Colo and his group to postpone their trip for a better evening. Sunday the 12th took us back to Montauk with the Bob Landry charter looking for those famed Montauk doormat fluke and they hit the jackpot. Perfect conditions (light winds with the tide and cloudy skies) led to 23 keeper fluke, several 5 to 7 lbs. along with a 30” 12 pound heavyweight. Pictures will be posted soon on our website.
