Connecticut Charter Fishing Report Blues, Blues, and more Blues. That is the story right now in the Race. Stripers are there but you have to work through the blues to get them. Early morning and nights have produced good numbers of striped bass for us in the past few days. Saturday’s trip saw Silvio, John, and son Scott, do very well on fluke. Started out chunking watch hill for an hour with no luck. Not much life out at watch hill, so we decided to start fluking early. Went over to Isabella to join the fleet, fish were taken in very close to shore in 35 feet of water. Picked up 2 shorts for every keeper but the action was steady. Started getting a little sloppy so we went to the other side of Fisher’s to try several areas. Same story, steady action, with a keeper coming over about every third fish. Decided to finish up in a fairly deep channel close to shore. Good choice too, after Scott was almost pulled in by a 10 pound 26 inch doormat. Got to the dock and the rains came down, all in all a happy group with some very good fillets for the dinner table. Sunday, Gary White and friends came out for a combo striper/fluke trip. Started out trolling the slack at Valiant, parachutes were the ticket for 3 keeper stripers and several, an inch shy. All the stripers were about to burst they were so fat. As the tide picked up the blues moved in. The rest of the fleet moved over to the middle race to get bounced around as we stayed to stem the tide for steady action on some nice size bluefish. Finished up in middle race but the pick was real slow. Decided to go fluking even in a very tough North wind. The pick was slow but they toughed it out in steady rain. Even with a tough wind and rain 3 nice keepers (biggest 24 inches) came over the side in about an hour. Decided to go way up the Mystic river where we could still get a good drift even with the wind. Good choice too, the rains died and the fluke were on. All in all a good day in very tough conditions. This weekend we will be fluking all day sat., and maybe go sharking for ourselves Sun. since we have a rare open date.
