Long Island Sound

The kingfisher had a morning trip today and it was nice to get out on a Monday . Light boat traffic and beatiful weather were in store throughout the day . We had a little trouble getting our live shad for the morning , it seems the cold weather is making them hold a little closer to structure. After filling the livewell's we had to pry the Charter away to go to the Bass fishing We headed out to one of our more productive outgoing spots with just a creep of a tide . As soon as we got the shad down we had three Bass on (a three person charter) These fish were amazing sizes a 45" and a 48" and a 50" . We continued to do this till we ran out of shad . The smallest fish was 39" with the 50" being the biggest. With that first load of shad we caught 15 Bass . So it was back to our bait gathering spot to get some more. We filled the livewell a little easier this time and headed back out. Again we got fish every drift with triple headers the norm . The Bass would come up with 5 or 6 others chasing them . At one point the fish finder was just covered completely with marks. This was about the best I have ever seen it. We landed another 48" a 46" and a bunch right around 44" . We would have caught more , but eventually the bluefish found our shads too. We caught too of those rats. We ended the day with 21 Bass , 5 over 40lbs and one very close to 50lbs . The crew only kept thier limit and actually released all of the bigger fish except one which we tried to revive for almost 20min , but the fish was too exhausted. What a Day ! and all of this was over by noon
