Weekend Report from Capt. Scott of Kingfisher Charters Saturday morning June 25th Gina Nunan surprised her husband Derek with a fishing trip in Mystic for his birthday. He received another gift from the fishing gods. We were able to get all the Hickory Shad they wanted and had a ball doing it. Hickory Shad are known as poor man’s tarpon because they fight so hard and jump out of the water. We had about two hours of tide left and a dozen shad. First drift the fishfinder lit up with big fish, every drift they had a fish on with the smallest going 38” and the biggest a fat 46 lb. 49 incher. An unforgettable birthday for sure. What a great gift from his wife. Sat. afternoon was much of the same. A group of five guys from western CT and NY were treated to two big bass each before they ran out of shad which were much tougher to find in the afternoon. It only took a few drifts to limit out. The tide died so we switched over to fluke. The rest of the trip was very slow, tried about ten different spots and only managed a couple keepers as many shorts and a few skates. All in all, a tremendous Saturday for the Kingfisher.
