August Report From The Kingfisher Sorry for the delay of our weekly reports, my computer has been down during my move. It has been a pretty wild month for the kingfisher. After a red hot July with stripers the bite finally turned slow for the first two weeks of August. Every third day or so we would find a pod of stripers but the other days were slow. Luckily huge numbers of bluefish took up residence in eastern long island sound and kept customers fighting fish after fish. Towards the middle to end of August schools of big stripers started moving back in our part of the sound and we boated many 30 and 40 pound fish with two over 50 lbs. Offshore we scored a 200 pound mako shark, plenty of bluefin tuna in close and many mahi mahi around the pots. As Sept. rolls into Oct. we expect the light tackle bluefin tuna fishery to turn on with a lot of action on 30 and 40 pound fish off Block Island. The Striped Bass action is very good right now and should produce some very big fish this fall. We will also be starting our striper/blackfish combo trips the beginning of October. If your interested in a trip email us or give us a call at 860-573-3614.
