With this heat the fish are really slowing down, but they are still eating. There is still plenty of pinfish and whitebait on the grass flats. Get to your spot before first light and start your chumming. The pin's will show up quickly, but the whitebait might take some time so be patient. The snook are still hanging around the mangroves and docks inside the passes. Free lined pinfish worked better than the whitebait this past week. Use a 2/0 circle hook and snip off the tail of the pinfish right at the base. This will slow them down and release some blood into the water. You might also pick up a nice jack or two using this method. If redfish are your thing, stick to the mangroves on high tide. They have been hiding out of the sun under the bushes. Shrimp on a jig head or cut bait thrown into the pockets have been the ticket. You can also look for them tailing at low tide around the oyster bars and grass flats. Gold spoons, gulp jerk shads, or zoom flukes will work fine.
