Estero Bay Report

Estero Bay

The past week has offered anglers plenty of action over the flats and nearshore waters. The backbay has given up some redfish action around the mangroves and oyster bars on higher water. Shrimp tipped jig heads seem to work best. Chumming the area and taking your time will increase your chances. Spotted seatrout are all over the grass flats in 3-5 feet of water. Shrimp under popping corks is the ticket. Anglers will also pick up plenty of ladyfish with this set-up. Sheepshead are staking their claim to the structures and feeding on shrimp tipped jig heads. Remember to downsize your hooks and use enough shrimp to cover the hook or they will rob you blind. There are also mangrove snapper hanging around the same places as the sheeps. The passes are holding plenty of silver trout and spanish mackerel. Bottom bouncing shrimp tipped jig heads will work fine, but the spanish have preferred a slow retrieve after a long cast.
