Estero Bay Report

Estero Bay

The only thing about consistent about the fishing this past week was that it wasn't consistent at all. The bite seemed to change by the day with the weather. The windy and cooler conditions made it difficult on anglers to find fish in their normal hangouts, but those that stuck it out and tried new locations found fish. Sea trout were biting in 2-5 feet of cleaner, grass bottom water and would take shrimp under popping corks. There were also plenty of ladyfish, jacks, and sharks caught with this method. The afternoon higher water provided anglers with some redfish opportunities around the mangroves and oyster islands. Shrimp on jig heads or under floats seemed to work best. Cut ladyfish was also popular choice by some but requires patience and time by anglers to wait for the scent to attract the fish. Sheepshead and snapper are still around and feeding on shrimp tipped jig heads thrown around blown down and other structured bottom.
