Estero Bay Report

Estero Bay

The best bite for anglers is the nearshore waters out to Mays reef. The passes are holding snapper, whiting, and silver trout and are willing to take drifting shrimp tipped jig heads. Moving out to the shallower water proves best for Spanish mackerel, whiting, seatrout, and small sharks. Drifting shrimp tipped jig heads will work here too. Ladyfish will take shrimp under popping corks just fine. There have also been reports of sharks and small pods of tarpon off the beaches. Anglers looking for their chance with the silver king should free lined threadfin herrings while drifting. White bait is also starting to show up in the deeper nearshore waters and snook in the backcountry around the docks and mangroves will eat them up. They seem to work best free lined on 3/0 circle hooks. The redfish bite has been tough but some have been caught using shrimp tipped jig heads or under floats around the oyster bars on higher water.
