Estero Bay Report

Estero Bay

The dirty water in addition to the cold windy weather has made for tough conditions for anglers the past week. The key to locating and catching fish has been to find cleaner water. Here anglers will find spotted seatrout willing to take shrimp under popping corks or jigheads tipped with shrimp bouncing along the bottom. Remember to work your baits slow through the water and low in the water column. This cooler water makes the fish sluggish and they won't chase anything moving too fast. You can also try artificial baits like curly tail grubs or paddle tail grubs on 1/6 oz jig heads. Rootbeer, chartreuse, and watermelon red are colors of choice. There are also plenty of sheepshead out there, but anglers might have to go through a few shorts to find the keepers. Fishing jigheads tipped with shrimp around the mangroves, oyster bars, and dock pilings will work best for getting some pretty tasty table fare.
