Estero Bay Report

Estero Bay

The bite in and around Estero Bay continues to be productive even with the cooler weather. The has been a good number of sheepshead caught around the mangroves and oyster bars using shrimp tipped #1 circle hooks with a #3 split shot for weight. Cast to the overhanging mangroves and let the tide take your bait along the edge. Be patient and work the area really well before moving on, the scent can take a while to get them feeding. Also work the floating docks for the sheepies, they like to hang out and feed of the barnacles and small crustations that hang around the pilings. Redfish are possible on high water around the mangroves and floating docks. Shrimp on ¼ oz jig heads will work best. The sea trout have been hitting shrimp tipped jig heads under popping corks in 3-5 feet of water over the grass. Anglers will also pick up ladyfish and pompano with this method. The nearshore reefs will start to produce big sheepshead and mackerel. Work the bottom for the sheep's and the upper water column for the mack's.
