On Thursday July 9th George Chase and sons started the afternoon trying to catch some keeper fluke to no avail. We then focused on getting some bait for the evening bass bite. We managed to get some live bait and fish them in the race as the sun was setting. George hooked into a LARGE bass that somehow spit the hook after a hard fight just before we were able to see the fish. George has caught many big bass with us and he did everything right, sometimes the fish win. The big bass were not cooperative thereafter so we swithed to trolling. There we good numbers of smaller bass and bluefish in the 8-10 lb class to provide a flurry of action as the sun set on a beautiful evening. They did manage two keeper bass for the table. Friday had the Kingfisher running morning and evening trips in the race. Shad were uncooperative for both trips. The cold weather has kept the bait from arriving in big numbers. I expect this to change very soon as waters are slowly warming. In the morning, Keven Fallon's crew found bass and bluefish biting as soon as we arrived at the east end of Valient shoal. The tide died and the fishing slowed about an hour after we started. The troll bite was not as good as the previous evening. We did manage to sore five keepers along with a few blue's. The evening trip was the slowest of the week until the very end. We manged to catch some nice bass in the 41" class just after dark on eels.
